Welcome!

to be sure, blogging is a way to communicate our thoughts, ideas, and our unique view of things to the rest of the human, tech-savvy world around us…… but, let’s have some fun anyway.

I’m a voice talent/artist/actor…. the descriptions are too numerous.  let’s just say I record stuff for money.  that means I listen to my voice all day long to make any of it.  I either have to like the sound of my own voice, or I’m completely ignoring it.  Ignorance is bliss.

my intent in creating this blog was to have a means to express any and all ideas about topics unique to the voiceover industry, but screw it… what’s on your mind?  all thoughts are welcome (within reason and good taste).

let’s see… some of the things I find interesting… in its rawest form, a voiceover can be thought of as any recorded audio track that using a human’s voice to enhance a production or some unit of entertainment.

think of those many voices you hear every day in radio, tv, movies, and who knows where, and behind that voice is a voiceover artist…. a real living/breathing human being who you rarely see.  they tell a story, introduce other people, describe potential prize winnings at game shows, or could even be the Wizard of Oz (what’s behind that curtain, anyway?)

think of the voices you hear coming out of the flapping mouths of cartoon characters…. voice artists.  Silence the voice artists, and all that remains are flapping mouths attached to weird looking characters dancing around on-screen…… not cool….. your kids will plead with you to leave the theater and head for the nearest dentist to have their upper teeth removed, or head to the nearest mcdonald’s….. the teeth still come out…. just a bit more slowly.

some voice artists are actually Hollywood actors whose voices are recognizable by huge numbers of people in this country and abroad.  they’re called ‘celebrity voices’…. tricky, huh?  in recent times advertisers have been seeing a kind of ‘backfire’ to this practice.  the voices are indeed recognizable, but the potential buyers take more time trying to figure out who the voice is rather than focus on the product being advertised…… .

a true artist in this business can make you pay close attention, laugh uncontrollably, cry miserably, torque you off no end, make you yell at your tv, or display any number of emotions too numerous to count, while rarely showing their faces.

now there’s some power, kids.
